“Yuri, I’ve done my best to be flexible since you sired me to be your gothic bridegroom,” Ashe said calmly. “I’ve been incorporating more black into my ensemble. I make sure to find the sweetest blood for you. I even sweep the Circle of Death when Balthus forgets to take his boots off without complaining anymore. But this,” and he pointed at the coffin, “is where I draw the line.”

“Don’t knock it until you try it,” Yuri replied with a cheeky wink. He ran a pale hand over the red silk lining. “First off, it’s a double coffin. There’s plenty of room for both of us to stretch and cuddle as we see fit. My lackey also made sure that not only does our little love nest of the dead possess a high ‘ceiling,’ but that the lining is plusher than your finest mattress.” He gave Ashe an appreciative leer. “So we could take things a step above cuddling if we wanted.”

Ashe closed his eyes in frustration. “Please never say ‘love nest of the dead’ again. I don’t care if we’re both technically dead. And while I appreciate your efforts, I can’t stand enclosed spaces.”

Yuri blinked, then frowned in sympathy. “Sorry. You get out of tight spaces so fast; I forgot you have issues with them.”

Ashe shrugged. “It doesn’t come up a lot. And I just joined the Wolves. I’m not expecting you to have every little thing about me committed to memory.” Ashe kissed Yuri’s cheek. “Even if you knew exactly how to seduce me into your world of shadows,” he then breathed raspily into Yuri’s ear, enjoying how his lover shuddered in response.

“Okay, so the coffin is a no.” Yuri shut the lid gently, then hopped on it. Ashe joined him a moment later. “Where are you going to snooze, then?”

“Oh, I used some of my share of the funds from our last score to order a mattress and bed frame.” Ashe pulled up the confirmation email on his phone. “See? It’ll all be here in a week. I ordered linen and pillows, too. It’s too big for the coffin room, but I thought I’d put it in the office since only I use that space.”

Yuri eyed the phone thoughtfully. “I can never decide if it’s really cool or really scary that I sired someone from the twenty-first century.”

Ashe kissed him again, this time on the mouth. “The answer is ‘scary,’ but you’ll need someone vaguely aware of how technology works.” Balthus was the second youngest vampire in their group and he had a century on Ashe. “By the way, the bed is queen-sized, so you can join me whenever you want.”

Yuri nodded, wrapping an arm around Ashe. “And I will, but I ain’t completely giving up my coffin. I paid too much money to not sleep in it on at least the odd days.”

Ashe smiled at his sire. “I’ll leave flowers for you on the days you sleep alone, so you have something colorful to start your night.”

“Thanks. But where are you going to sleep until it arrives?”

“Oh, I’ll just sleep on the floor.” It wasn’t a big deal. He’d slept in worse conditions regularly growing up, after all.

“No. I did not ask you to move in for you to have to sleep like you did before I met you.” Yuri’s tone was resolute. “I’ll bring down the sofa couch.”

“Yuri, I’m not going to let you drag that huge thing down the stairs!”

“Okay, fine, you can sleep in the living room until the bed’s here.”

Ashe would not admit it out loud, but he pouted at that. “But I want to be near you.” However, he also didn’t want Yuri to forsake his beautiful, expensive coffin—which meant Yuri sleeping with him on the couch was out. “I’ll bring down the couch cushions and some blankets, okay? It’ll be like a little futon. It won’t be like when you found me, I promise.”

“Well, okay,” Yuri relented. “I still feel like a crummy boyfriend, though.”

Ashe kissed him one more time, this time nice and slow. “You are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. And I am so thankful I have eternity to prove that to you.”

Constance had been even less thrilled than Yuri that their ‘innocent fledgling of the night was forced to sleep on the floor thanks to Yuri’s ignorant actions,’ but Ashe had assured her that he would be comfy by letting her try the arrangement of cushions, pillows, and the plush cat his sister had sent him. She had been so pleasantly surprised, that Ashe loaned her the teddy bear his brother had gifted him. Hapi and Balthus brought in some spare blankets that Ashe had not been aware were in the manor. Yuri still looked guilty as the other four entered their respective coffins, but honestly? Ashe was warmer and safer than he’d ever been as a human.

He was almost asleep when he heard the creak of a coffin. He sat up, expecting to see Hapi in search of a snack. Instead, Yuri was sitting next to him, clad only in a black negligee. The garment clung to Yuri like a second skin. He was, as always, quite sexy, but Ashe was more focused on how upset his sire looked. “Yuri, are you okay?”

Yuri was bare-faced and his hair was tangled from tossing and turning. Ashe took in the little vulnerabilities that only he got to see as Yuri grabbed one of the blankets, wrapping it around his form. “No. I missed you.”

Ashe took Yuri into his arms, easing them both on the makeshift bed. “I’m right here. And I’m not going anywhere.”

Yuri burrowed into him. “Forget the coffin. I’ll sleep with you if you’ll have me.”

Ashe kissed Yuri’s hair. “I’ll have whatever you give. But what are we going to do about your coffin? It’s too nice to toss out.”

Yuri thought for a moment. “We’ll use it to house all the stuffies your siblings keep sending you.”

Ashe took Yuri’s hand, letting him touch the spot on his neck where Yuri had claimed Ashe that cold night a few months ago. Even now, feeling pressure on that mark made him feel warm and safe. “For a vampire that insists on capes and coffins, you’re quite practical when you want to be.”

Final notes: Yep, that's a Simpsons reference with the Circle of Death. I'm old. ;P
